Left hand – 2024

LEFT HAND
Experimental photography & circuit bending - 2024
Left Hand began with a very simple practical observation: as a right-handed photographer, my left hand was the most readily available model I had. What started almost playfully became a series of experiments between the hand, the camera and the glitch. While my right hand operates the modified camera, my left becomes its subject. I repeatedly photographed the same familiar element, changing its position while allowing the electronic instability of the camera to produce different visual responses.
Across the series, the hand remains immediately recognisable, yet its colours, contours and textures are radically transformed. Each image becomes another variation produced through the encounter between the same body and different states of the machine. There is also a simple reversal in this relationship that interests me: the hand is usually what allows us to manipulate a tool, yet here it becomes the material upon which the tool acts.
The series does not attempt to give this gesture a larger narrative. It emerged primarily through experimentation, repetition and curiosity, using the closest possible subject to observe what the camera was capable of seeing.
