Forest Fire – 2026/ongoing

FEU FOREST
Experimental photography & mixed media - 2026/ongoing series
I have always been drawn to forests as places where it is easy to lose one's bearings. They belong to the world of tales and the marvellous, but also to something darker and more unsettling.
Feu Forest grew from this ambiguity. Its title evokes both the will-o'-the-wisp, an apparition one might be tempted to follow and forest fire, a force capable of transforming an entire landscape.
I photograph these environments with modified digital cameras and allow their accidents to guide part of my wandering. A strange colour, distortion or unexpected form can make me stop, change direction, or search for something I had not intended to photograph. The landscape influences the image, but the image also begins to influence the way I move through the landscape.
However distorted the photographs become, I try to preserve a trace of the original forest, a branch, a leaf, an Ariadne's thread connecting the image back to reality. The territory that emerges exists somewhere in between: familiar enough to enter, but strange enough to become lost in.
What if the glitch was not an error, but a doorway into a new territory?
As the project evolves, I am increasingly interested in bringing this territory out of the photograph itself, through large-scale prints, gold leaf and spatial experimentation. Rather than simply looking at a forest in which one can lose one's bearings, I want to explore how the work itself might become a space in which to get lost.
Perhaps, within the errors of our machines, there are territories we never intended to create.
